Metro - starts early before the rec program

The NBA usually sponsors Metro teams as follows:

  • 3rd Grade - 1 team of 10 players
  • 4th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - equal teams - split squad
  • 5th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)
  • 6th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)
  • 7th Grade - 2 teams - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)
  • 8th Grade - 2 teams - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)

All Metro players 3rd through 6th grade must participate in the in-house rec program to be eligible to play Metro. Metro tryouts are held every year before the in-house rec program starts. The tryouts are announced here, in the NBA newsletter and on Facebook.

All 7th & 8th grade Metro players must make the Norwin Middle School Blue or Gold team to be eligible to play Metro. All 20 players from the Blue & Gold middle school teams in both 7th & 8th grade are welcome to play Metro. The NBA can also pull players outside of the school teams to fill a roster, as necessary.

All star tournament teams

All Star teams are formed toward the end of the in-house rec program. All Star teams are selected by ratings of the in-house coaches. Each coach submits ratings from 16 to 1, rating their top choice as 16 down to 1. The values are added to rank each player.

  • A Teams are formed from the top 5 rated players and 3 coaches picks.
  • B Teams are formed from the next top 5 rated players and 3 coaches pick.
  • Split squad teams are formed from the top ranking players.

The NBA usually sponsors Allstar teams as follows:

  • 3rd Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - equal teams - split squad
  • 4th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - equal teams - split squad
  • 5th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)
  • 6th Grade - 2 teams of 8 players - A team (div 1) & B team (div 2)
